The event of creation and source of healing & Jhar Phuk – the Nepali traditional healing practice
June 11 – June 14, 2026
Bunde, Germany
Dhanvantari emerges as a luminous beacon in Nepali mythology, revered as the God of medicine and an enduring symbol of health and healing. His extraordinary tale unfolds during the enchanting event of the Samudra Manthan, a celestial dance where gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) unite in their fervent quest for the coveted nectar of immortality (amrita).
Typically portrayed as a strikingly handsome and compassionate figure, Dhanvantari gracefully holds a radiant pot of nectar (Kalasha), a resonant conch shell, and a vibrant assortment of medicinal herbs—each element a testament to the profound essence of healing. The Pot of Nectar glimmers with the promise of rejuvenation, embodying the restorative power that it bestows upon those in need. The Conch Shell, with its melodious call, invites us to embark on our personal healing journeys, urging us to remember the cherished moments of well-being and vitality that enrich our lives. Meanwhile, the medicinal herbs underscore Dhanvantari's divine role as a healer, deeply rooted in the abundant remedies that nature provides. In the sacred realm of Ayurveda, Dhanvantari is revered as a guiding luminary for practitioners, illuminating the vital health rituals and ceremonies that have transcended generations.

His veneration reaches a pinnacle during the Dhanteras festival, where temples transform into vibrant community sanctuaries, celebrating the essence of collective well-being and harmony. Beyond this, Dhanvantari's powerful presence resonates within Nepali shamanism, where his energy is invoked to facilitate profound healing across the physical, emotional, and spiritual realms. His connection to the Makara, a mythical creature embodying water and abundance, further emphasizes the vital harmony of life and the delicate balance of nature that sustains us all. In conclusion, delving into Dhanvantari's teachings enriches our understanding of wellness, inspiring us to intertwine the physical, spiritual, and environmental dimensions of health. This transformative journey invites us to embrace vitality and harmonious living, fostering a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us. We warmly welcome practitioners and seekers on the healing path to join us in this enlightening session. Together, we will explore the events of creation, the source of healing, and the creation of a sacred space. We will establish a ground mandala and partake in initiation, ceremonies, and group healing sessions. Embark on this profound journey with us, as we collectively nurture our spirits and enhance our well-being!
Jhar Phuk
Jhar Phuk is a traditional Nepali shamanic healing practice that draws deeply on local cultural and spiritual beliefs. This holistic approach addresses physical and emotional ailments by tackling their perceived supernatural or spiritual origins.
The practice is led by traditional healers known as Dhami or Jhakri (shamans), and the term itself translates to "sweeping and blowing." This refers to the primary techniques that these healers employ. In Jhar Phuk, Dhami-Jhankris utilize a small broom (kucho) or bundles of medicinal/sacred plants to “sweep away” negative energies or evil spirits thought to be the source of disharmony and illness. Alongside this sweeping motion, they blow their breath, infused with healing mantras (chants), onto the recipient’s body, aiming to restore balance and well-being. This method remains a crucial form of primary healthcare in many rural regions of Nepal, appreciated for its inclusive and spiritual approach, making it accessible to both urban and rural populations. During a teaching session on Jhar Phuk, participants can expect to gain practical insights into the causes of disharmony and imbalances—both internally and externally—and to explore the connections to ancestors and the local environment.

They will learn how to prepare for healing sessions and discover the simple tools and objects used in these practices. This hands-on experience empowers participants to engage meaningfully in the healing process. Group ceremonies and healing sessions lead up to the Siir Uthaune ceremony, which focuses on elevating the spirit and reclaiming life-essences. This teaching is open to everyone and is designed to enhance and deepen the healing knowledge for practitioners, while also offering general participants a gateway to understanding the workings of traditional shamanic healing. As the course is experiential and conducted in-person, every participant will not only experience healing themselves but will also take home valuable insights into Nepal-Himalayan Shamanism that they can weave into their daily lives.
