Garuda, the Lord of space

Garuda, the Lord of space - Golden healer beyond time and space

June 3 – June 7, 2026

Nohner Muhle, Eifel, Germany

In the rich realm of mythology and spirituality, the Nagas stand as the esteemed guardians of the Water and Earth realms, while Garuda, the Regal Eagle or Harul-Gadul, emerges as their magnificent counterpart. This mythical deity, possessing a unique fusion of human form and avian attributes, plays a vital role as the guardian and caretaker of Aakash, the ethereal in-between Space—a function that holds great significance in the spiritual landscape.

Garuda occupies an essential place within the cultural, political, and religious frameworks of many Asian nations. Its portrayal can vary beautifully across different cultures, each adding its own unique texture to the story.

Embraced within Nepali Himalayan Shamanism, Garuda's healing rituals also resonate within the practices of neighboring traditions such as Sanatana Dharma, Vedic, Buddhism, and Bön, enriching the tapestry of its importance. In Nepal, the Garuda figure finds a prominent home in temples and sacred spaces, honored as the vahana (vehicle) of Lord Vishnu.

The renowned dialogue between Lord Vishnu and Garuda inspired the creation of the Garuda Purana, a pivotal text often referred to as the Sanatani Vaidic 'Book of the Dead,' which explores the soul's journey beyond earthly life.

Garuda embodies a diverse range of names and attributes—Nagari (enemy of the snakes), Vishahari (healer and eliminator of poison), and Suparna (symbolizing radiant golden light, akin to the Sun)—reflecting its multifaceted roles in both worldly and other-worldly realms.
